Hollókő Public Foundation was established in 1992 by Hollókő Municipality to maintain the preserved buildings which are part of the World Heritage Site and to make use of the resort homes owned by the village and county municipalities, but the body only began its activity in earnest in 1996.

Its responsibilities include publicity to attract tourists, marketing and, since 1999, to co-ordinate the economic and social development of the village.

Apart from these it also organises cultural events several times a year, which attract several thousand visitors to Hollókő. These events include the nationally famous Easter Festival, the Pentecost

Festival and theatre performances in the castle. By organising small events the Foundation offers possibilities of entertainment to visitors and local residents, alike, in almost every part of the year.

In order to be able to perform its mission the body has taken advantage of modern technology to assist in the development of Hollóko and the presentation of the village and its surroundings to the public.

The Foundation uses all types of publications and printed materials – both in the village and at different exhibitions – to attract attention to the assets of the place, and experience shows that this policy is successful.

In future Hollókő Public Foundation will be expected to perform an overall role of village management, In its first stage it carried out the strategy of village development which

Hollóko Municipality devised in 1999. Through its role of co-ordination and management, performed on the basis of a non-profit activity, it retains most of its functions, but some of its tasks, such as the supply of information booking accommodation, will be delegated to the Hollóko Tourinform Office.

The leaders of the Foundation decided to open a Tourinform Office in Hollókő to share some of the tasks and boost the development of the village and its neighbourhood. This Office is expected to be a tourist information centre for Hollókő and the nearby villages. So far this activity has been performed by the staff of the Public Foundation. As a result of the reorganisation visitors can retrieve information and news from a really sophisticated information system, which will become an integral part the development of tourism in and around the village, and in the whole of Nógrád County.
