System of organization

Hollókö Municipality has a body of representatives with 6 members. The Mayor performs his work in a full-time capacity. The body of representatives has an auxiliary branch, the Committee for the Control of Finance and Declarations of Property. The body – in order to perform tasks to prepare and implement decisions regarding the function of the municipality and matters of public administration – runs a joint office together with the municipality bodies of the villages of Felsotold and Alsótold. The name of this joint office is "Office of Hollóko- Felsotold-Alsótold District-Notaries, and it is headed by a district-notary.

Field of activity

The Village Municipality strives to perform the tasks defined in the Act of Local Municipalities to the highest possible standards.

Due to the demographic structure of the village it is very important to provide basic social services and health care. (70 % of the people in  the village are old age pensioners.) In order to guarantee the high level of social care the municipality runs a service of local guardians and employs a professional health care attendant.

To provide statutory elementary education the village maintains a primary school and a kindergarten.

Apart from the tasks defined in the Act the Village Municipality performs the important tasks of providing the population with public services, improving living conditions, co-ordinating tourism, protecting the treasures in the centre of the village, which is on the UNESCO List of Cultural Heritage, and preserving and cherishing the tremendous spiritual, cultural and other assets which make the village world famous.

The importance of tourism in Hollókö is much greater than in the nearby towns and villages, as the figure of about a hundred thousand visitors in a year accounts for a large part of the visits to Nógrád County. As the level of unemployment is rather high in the neighbourhood, our scope of activities also involves the creation of new jobs, in order to make the level of employment as high as possible.

The phases of development and the maintenance of the protected buildings, required by the "World Heritage" title, are a major item in our local budget.

Education

The Municipality maintains and runs venues for community activities (Cultural Centre, Village Community Home, Youth Club) in order to protect, cherish and hand down cultural treasures and assets.

Within the framework of an educational agreement Hollókö Public Foundation (a body established by the Municipality) is mainly responsible for public education.

The Municipality also has a major role in coordinating the work of local social organisations, and continuous cooperation is a significant part of the social life of the village.
